]]>The post SpotCam Video Doorbell 2 Review – Can a £90 video doorbell compete vs Ring, Eufy & Arlo? first appeared on Tech Like This.
]]>Summary
SpotCam Video Doorbell 2 is a good value for money and offers all I need from a video doorbell. It is available in the following languages: free The 7-day cloud recording option is an excellent addition, and is what makes this product superior to the Eufy Doorbell for the same price.
There are pros
Cons
They are my absolute favorite piece of smart tech. However, they can be quite expensive; the latest Ring Video Doorbell 4 and the Arlo Essential Wireless Video Doorbell are both £179.
The SpotCam Video Doorbell 2 comes in at a much more wallet-friendly £89 with the added bonus of including a chime speaker and free 7-day cloud recording. Ring will charge you £19.99 for a chime and Arlo £44.99. This is a great deal, as it’s half the cost of big-name brands and doesn’t incur ongoing costs (although there are optional subscription services).
We did not find any products.
It was easy to set up, and is similar to other IoT devices. Bluetooth is used to make the setup easier, passing the details of the 2.4Ghz WiFi network.
You will find it annoying to have to turn off the free To get seven-day cloud storage you must go through the subscription setup process. Thankfully they don’t require you to provide card details, and it only takes a few seconds, but I would have thought this would be enabled as default.
You can adjust various settings within the camera setting. HD Video is available. You can adjust the image quality and see night clearly.
A feature I love is being able to add email alerts above the regular push alerts.
You can also set up an alert schedule, so you don’t get bothered while you are sleeping.
This installation was better than most. There are four screws that secure the backplate in place. However, there is also some 3M tape available to attach it to anything.
It is clear enough. I’d say it is similar to the performance you get from Ring. But it costs much more. Eufy, Arlo and other brands offer better quality. It is not important to me that the video doorbell has amazing quality. All I need is to be able to see who’s at the door and get timely notifications.
Although the fisheye lens has a wider verticle field than Ring, it is not nearly as sharp as Arlo’s 1:1 aspect ratio.
Even though night vision can be acceptable, Ring Video Doorbell 3 performed about the same, but Video Doorbell 4 is better.
Performance in motion detection is below-par. SpotCam doesn’t allow you to customize things.
Although the specification says it employs intelligent, active motion detection, I get far more false alarms that Eufy/Ring/Arlo.
The garden is securely fenced from the street, and it is not possible to set it off. It is possible that this is what older IP surveillance cameras were triggering from shadows and swaying plants.
While the battery seems to be in good condition, I haven’t had it for long enough to fully drain, so I doubt that 6 month claim. Based on my current usage, I’d expect more like a monthly charge. You can reduce your battery consumption by changing the image settings, or even using the video AI Service.
The only difference to Eufy is that you need to disassemble the doorbell in order to charge it. You’ll be without one for hours. The removable batteries of Ring and Arlo are my favorite, as you can easily swap them out for a new one.
Other brands make it difficult to take the doorbell off, but this is possible with ease. It is easy to take the doorbell off to charge it, however it can be easily taken away by an intruder. I wouldn’t regard it as a significant issue, but I guess it depends where you live.
Notification lag is a problem with video doorbells, which can often be caused by bad WiFi.
So far, there doesn’t seem to be a serious issue with this camera. Although loading events and live streams takes a while, they load quickly.
SpotCam is lauded for its ability to offer a variety of services, free They offer basic cloud recording as well as the ability to save to microSD.
They will charge $5.95 per monthly for basic human detection. For $9.99, you can get an outdoor service package that includes missing object, human and vehicle detections, as well as virtual fence.
Eufy takes care of all these things free, and Ring/Arlo do most of this as part of their subscription packs which are around £2.50 per month.
I assume the SpotCam subscription will cover all the SpotCam devices you may have, but Ring Plus is still only £8/month for unlimited devices and 30-day video history.
SpotCam cloud recording plans, while more expensive than the Video AI plans, are still quite reasonable.
You can get 30 days of recording for .95 (£2.08) per month or per year per camera, which is less than what Arlo and Ring charge for a single device (£2.50/month). However, there are no bulk options, so if you add several cameras around your home, the costs will mount up, whereas Ring caps out at £8pcm.
We did not find any products.
The SpotCam Video Doorbell 2 is £89.99 and includes a chime.
Eufy Security 2K Wireless video doorbell was the most reliable option that I’ve used. It is currently priced at £179, the same as Ring and Arlo, but it regularly drops to £134. The home base works as a chime, and the overall quality and performance are well worth the extra price (at £134).
Alternatively, there is the 1080P eufy Security WiFi Video Doorbell Kit for £89.99. The kit includes a chime. Although I haven’t tried it yet, Eufy says it is great. SpotCam has the disadvantage of not having a camera. free Cloud recording for 7 days; however, it provides on-device AI human detection free All are welcome.
Then Ring also has their Ring Video Doorbell for £89, there is no chime, and you will need to pay £2.50/month or £24.99/year to make the most out of it. Although I’ve not tried it, Ring is sure that this will work well.
SpotCam Video Doorbell 2 offers a good value when considering the price. Because of the included chime, it is quite affordable than the Ring. free cloud recording.
Problem is, the Eufy 1080P is often the same price as the SpotCam. However, the Eufy 1080P does not have cloud recording.
Ideally, I’d say the SpotCam should be £10-20 less to make it stand out from the more reputable brand names. The SpotCam is still an acceptable video doorbell. It’s worth checking out the Amazon discount that regularly occurs.

]]>The post DH Lifelabs Sciaire Min + HEPAAir Purifier Review – How do air ionizers work? first appeared on Tech Like This.
]]>Summary
I am impressed by the DHLifelabs Sciaire mini. It is quiet, efficient and has a nice appearance. It depends on whether you are convinced of the health benefits of air-ionization. It is supported by science, which I believe is worthwhile.
There are pros
Cons
Over the years I have written extensively about air purifiers, indoor air quality, and other topics.
These air purifiers all use HEPA filters. Air purifiers may be expensive but they’re essentially just fans that push air through filters. It is easy to see why many air purifiers cost hundreds of dollars. The majority of air purifiers that I reviewed have Wi-Fi, and have built-in monitors for air quality. This helps to justify their high price tag.
Things are a little more complicated with the DH Lifelabs Sciaire Min. While it does not have Wi-Fi capability, this is my first review of an air purifier with an air ionizer built in. It’s a controversial piece of technology. Will it be marketed as the best for indoor air quality or just a marketing stunt?
To make sure I’m not called out, the specifications are listed by the company on their product pages.
This air purifier is distinguished from all others by its air ionization feature.
Although I naturally am skeptical, I have been exposed to product marketing air ionisations and believed it to be marketing hype.
But, as it turned out, I was incorrect, and there are some caveats.
The static charge created by air ionisers is around any airborne contaminants in your space. These particles, such as allergens and dust, are attracted by nearby grounded conductors once they have been charged. These particles stick to the surface where they meet.
It is efficient at reducing the airborne particles but they are likely to stick to your home’s surfaces. You will still get some contaminants sticking to surfaces in your home, even though an air-ionizing air purifier has deliberate plates that collect them.
PlasmaShield technology is claimed to be the feature of this purifier. The unit’s proprietary technology produces ions that can be used to kill pathogens and purify the air around it.
Clean rooms have used air ionisers to reduce ultrafine particles.
Consumer-oriented air ionizers have not been shown to be powerful enough for influencing particulate levels in the homes. You can only assume that the marketing claims by DH Lifelabs, as well as many other products, are correct.
Although it’s not an ideal solution for everyone, many will find it better than being exposed to those chemicals.
It makes big claims regarding its ability to eradicate viruses. Partu BS-08 reviews the effectiveness of purifiers to eliminate viruses.
HEPA filters can remove many bacterias that might be in the air. HEPA filters can filter things down to 0.3um. Many microbiology books state that most bacteria are between 0.2um to 2.0um in size (diameter).
The average virus size is 0.3um. Anti-maskers used this argument to argue that viruses are usually smaller than 0.3um. However, it failed to recognize the fact many viruses including covid transmit droplet infections and not airborne.
This is because of air ionization. New Scientist reports that air ionisers can be used in hospitals to treat bacterial-based infection.
Sharp Electronics has found that the air conditioners can activate viruses such as influenza by producing positive and negativeions.
Things are more complicated when it comes to viruses. There isn’t much evidence to support the idea that air ionisation causes any damage to virus cells. Many viruses such as SARS-CoV-2, influenza, and others, like the Sharp research, depend on piggybacking from smaller aerosols or droplets. The covid virus can spread through aerosols that are smaller than drops. These can travel many kilometres away from the source, but can remain suspended in air for up to hours. Combining a HEPA filter with air ionization should reduce spread of aerosol-borne viruses.
My limited research (about 30 minutes of Googling) suggests that the HEPA filter will prove to be the most effective. Although I’m not certain if it is better to have an ionized virus-laden particle randomly landing on your surface, it is still highly recommended.
The setup is simple for this air purifier. This air purifier comes with the HEPA filter in a bag. You will need to remove the bag and refit it before you can use it.
The fan will automatically turn on when you push the button. It can adjust the speed of the fans according to the quality of the air. You can see the level of air quality by looking at the LED ring.
Problem with the purifier: They don’t list the CADR. It gives an indication of air filtration performance, and helps you select the best size air purifier.
The claims of this unit being able to manage spaces up to 20 m2 (20 m2) are enough to believe. It also claims to be able to turn the air over 4.8 times per hour.
From that, you can calculate the CADR. The ceiling height would be 8ft. It works in a space of 215 ft2. With 5 air changes per hour, this would work out at 143 CFM or 243 m³/h.
Because this purifier is meant to fit in smaller spaces, the CADR is not as high as many other options. The performance is about the same as that of the Xiaomi Smart Airpurifier 4 Pro, but it’s a bit less expensive than the Princess Smart Airpurifier I reviewed back in June.
Both of these air purifiers have intelligent functionality, which allows you to create schedules and track the air quality. However, they do not include air ionization.
Let’s now get to the actual performance of it in my house. I don’t have much to add. The performance has been satisfactory. The weather is cold, my allergies aren’t too severe, and I haven’t had to get a virus in over 5 years. I cannot comment on the effectiveness of this product.
My Airthings View Plus indoor air quality was reported to be good. The LED indicator of the purifier seemed to match what Airthings has to say. When I’m cooking in the kitchen, PM 2.5 peak. Subjectively, I find that they seem to fall off quicker with this purifier (which is normal).
Because it is so cold outside, windows need to be closed. There can also be food odors, dampness and mustiness in our bedrooms. Subjectively, it does appear to have reduced that problem.
It is very quiet at the level of one. The volume can be turned up to max, although it isn’t as loud as other air purifiers. However, the pitch will sometimes be higher than those of the competitors. It is probably due to its smaller fan and lower CADR.
The DH Lifelabs Sciaire Mini + HEPA is priced at £200 and has a CADR of approximately 243 m³/h (based on my questionable maths).
These are the results of air ionization:
The Princess Smart Air Purifier is £170 with a CADR of 280 m³/h.
The Philips Series 2000i Connected Air Purifier is £250 with a CADR of 333 m³/h.
The Xiaomi Smart Air Purifier 4 Pro is roughly £250 with a CADR of 500 m³/h.
Blueair is an expensive, but a well-respected brand in the air purifier world and they have the Dustmagnet 5240I which has a 230+ m³/h CADR and costs £350.
I usually try to be as objective as possible, and my conclusions are based on the product’s performance in comparison with other products and its price.
It is impossible to achieve this in these cases. This will depend on the amount of value that you place into air ionization. Unfortunately, I do not have the ability to test this in an environment that can be used as a lab.
Also, it is winter and my allergies don’t seem to be that severe at the moment.
The DH Lifelabs Mini Sciaire has been a pleasant experience. The Sciaire Mini runs quiet and improves air quality faster than an ordinary air purifier. You can also get rid of the unpleasant smells and food odours caused by closed windows.
The CADR performance of this unit is comparable to those made by other manufacturers, if my calculations are correct. HEPA filters are not very expensive, but they can be quite costly if you don’t need them.
I was impressed overall with the DH Lifelabs Sciaire Mini. I recommend it. However, you should consider the following caveats.

]]>The post PerfectDraft Pro Review – Still the best beer machine, but increasing beer prices make it less desirable first appeared on Tech Like This.
]]>Summary
PerfectDraft Pro offers the most affordable option for home users who want a beer maker. However, beer is more expensive than ever.
The pros
Cons
PerfectDraft’s beer machine proved to be a huge success during lockdowns. It was used by many people who were trying desperately for some calm during extremely difficult times.
While they have been a beloved gadget, interest has dropped in recent years. They are no longer used on a regular basis by most friends. Instead, they are only taken out to special events.
Philips/BeerHawk has refreshed the beer machine’s Pro model to re-invigorate interest in purchasing beer kegs.
PerfectDraft Pro, a smart upgrade that adds many of the same features as the original model. First and foremost is the ability to control the temperature, including taking it all the way down to 0°C.
PerfectDraft was the first home beer machine that offered variable temperatures.
Unfortunately, many current users have lost interest due to rising beer prices.

Beer Hawk’s and PerfectDraft’s biggest problems is the ever-increasing cost of beer. Beer Hawk is increasing the prices of beer and decreasing the number of offers. Beer Hawk had always been expensive. The most recent price rise added around £2 to most kegs.
Reddit users are discontented. I’ve also seen negative comments regarding HotUKDeals.
Stella beer has been very popular due to the PerfectDraft’s use of Belgia-brewed beer instead of the UK-brewed varieties. I certainly wouldn’t drink Stella out of a can, but it is nice on the PerfectDraft. You can get a greater selection at the supermarket and the beer is less expensive. However, it will cost you more to buy a machine, or run it.
A quick look at Tesco shows I can get Krombacher Pils or Paulaner Munich Hell at £2.20 a bottle or 3 for £5. That’s £1.67 per 500ml vs £2.40 for Becks, the cheapest full-strength beer for the PerfectDraft (and that’s factoring in the refund from a keg).
PerfectDraft Pro has WiFi now and can be controlled using an app. Two buttons are located on the front to control the temperature. Since I realized this, the app is rarely used.
It has some benefits, however. You can use the app to get advice about the ideal temperature for each beer. I have Spaten at the moment, and this is supposed to be 3°C. If I switch it to Leffe, it recommends 7°C.
You can change the mode of this machine from regular to power-saving or cooling schedule if you are using it regularly. It will save electricity by not being in use. Although it isn’t something I use, I do not think I need to.
If you prefer to drink beer casually and enjoy a slow-paced drinking experience, it’s possible to set the date when you place the keg. The beer will then last until it runs out.
The machine is quite slow, which I found disappointing. First keg that I tried to install refused to give me the volume of my beer. Also, it seemed confused by temperature. The machine would not settle down unless I turned it off several times.
It failed to connect after being turned off for a time. This again required me to restart it.
None of these are major problems, but it isn’t the experience I expected for a premium device.
The app has the power-saving mode, which is a good thing as it uses a lot of electricity. With my beer machine set to 1°C it was pulling 117W consistently when I watched it, but during a 5-hour period, it pulled 0.3kW. This consumes more electricity than my refrigerator. It is probably due to the Peltier cooling not being as efficient as a compressor, and because the insulation is less than that of a regular fridge.
After switching to power saving mode it dropped immediately to 4.7W. It will probably remain this way until the temperature reaches its target.
You can call me a heathen but I prefer my beer chilled, no matter what the brand. I find that 1°C or 2°C is significantly better than the standard 3°C, and this is the main selling point of the PerfectDraft Pro.
Even though you get warned that the head may be reduced at below 3°C, I haven’t had too much of an issue with it and have enjoyed all the beer that has come out of it so far.
Of course, it also works the other way too, you should drink things like IPA a bit warmer than the standard 3°C and you now have an option to adjust this.
Smart Pour, a new design for the beer taps has also been implemented. While I’m not certain how big of an impact this has on my experience, the beer tap now features Smart Pour. Although it usually produces a foamy head after I pour, all is well once that happens. My beer will naturally have a smaller head if it has been chilled. It does seem marginally better than the original, though, I only had limited experience with it, but I’d often pour a beer with a big head when using my friends.
Personally, my feelings about PerfectDraft Pro are mixed.
The original view that beer was too expensive hasn’t changed. I find it hard to justify buying it often. PerfectDraft is becoming less attractive due to rising beer costs.
Also, the machine’s operation is somewhat erratic. While this hasn’t been a huge problem for me, it is not what I expect from a premium piece of equipment.
It has been a great tool for special events and parties. This machine is now much easier to use than its predecessor because it has lower temperatures. This machine is by far the most popular beer-making device. While the Blade may be a more affordable option, it costs much more. This makes it difficult to recommend the Blade for home-buyers (unless you are a heavy drinker). Overall, if you are going to get a beer machine, then this is the only option I’d choose.

]]>Summary
Anova makes it easy to cook delicious meat and is worth the investment.
Anyone who has watched any cooking program will have heard of sous vide. Although the name sounds pretentious, sous vide doesn’t make sense.
It promises perfect results and is something that I’ve always wanted to do. However, in the past the gadgets were quite costly, so I was afraid it might end up just being another thing I forgot about after only a few weeks.
That may be possible in the future. For now though, it was my first experience with sous vide.
Anova is possibly the most popular brand in the business, the original Anova Culinary Sous Vide Precision Cooker has over 6,418 ratings on the Amazon website with an impressive 4.6 out of 5 with 80% of the reviews being 5-star and just 5% being 1-star.
To the best of my knowledge that launched on Amazon around 3 years ago for £159 dropping down to £129 prior to its discontinuation in December.
Subsequently the V2 model launched with an initial price of £159, but then this jumped up to £199, and it now has gone back down to £159.
It is one of the most expensive options on the market, with many other competing brands offering models for under £100. It is equipped with Wi-Fi so you can control your Anova using your smartphone.
The latest V2 model’s specification is:
Although I don’t have the exact specifications of the original model available, it did have a lower power output at 900W and was more water-resistant.
Pro-Massive increased the power and allowed you to heat 100L of water. That’s likely to be more than any homeowner would ever need.
It doesn’t feel all that costly considering the Anova’s new low price. This is the same price as an electric pressure cooker, blender, or similar. The downside is that you will need to purchase all accessories for sous vide (this holds true for every device).
The Anova can be used with bags and a pan large enough to hold the contents. If you are forking out £150 you may as well get a vacuum sealer which is £95 for the Anova branded model, but you can get excellent alternatives for about £50.
Then an open metal crockpot is not ideal for very long cooks, so you will at least need some sous vide balls which are about £15.
A proper water bath will also be beneficial for your meat. This will make it easier to prepare large pieces of meat, and increase its thermal efficiency. Although the Anova brand stuff can be quite costly, this one seems much more quality. A standard container is £79.99, but they have also launched a stainless-steel double-walled insulation water bath which should be the most cost-efficient way of using the sous vide, but this will set you back £139.99.
Another accessory you might consider is the sous vide rack. This will help keep your food from sticking and allows you to make multiple dishes simultaneously. These are typically £30+
So if you bought all the Anova branded stuff you are looking at £300-£400
This sous vide has a major advantage over the cheaper options. You can control it via your smartphone and watch the cooking process via Wi-Fi.
This could be an argument that isn’t necessary. With a precision cooker, the temperature of the water and food stays the same throughout the cooking process so it doesn’t require you to constantly monitor them. This is not the same as a smart BBQ thermometer, where the temperature and ambient temperatures of your meat are monitored.
This is the exception. You might have to wait for it heat up if you use a lot of cold water. You can leave the Anova and it will let you know when it’s ready.
Anova also has community-oriented recipes. This allows you to look at other Anova users’ cooking and then send them the temperature and time to Anova.
You can also find community recipes and guides. They are very useful because they not only provide you with the instructions but also explain the whole process.
All your favorite recipes can be saved to the app so you don’t have to remember them.
I find the app to be very user-friendly. It does not always connect. However, it switches between connecting and disconnecting quickly almost all of the times I check the Anova. This is not a major problem, but it seems like there’s a delay when my Huawei P40 Pro pulls up data from Anova.
It also works remotely so that you can monitor your temps while out and about. It shouldn’t be too critical, as it should maintain the same temperature all through. I guess it will help you identify if something has gone wrong mid-cook though – which could be frustrating if a none smart sous vide stops for whatever reason mid-way through a 2-day cook!
Although I’ve used Anova several times now for meals, it is not complicated at all. However, I still love it.
First, let me tell you about the negative side of it. On two of six meals that I had since I purchased the Anova there was constant beeping. The water level was correct according to the support pages. There were no obvious problems. It was fixed by the old trick of turning it on and off again. It isn’t ideal and I don’t know why, but this is an easy and quick fix.
Everything has been great beyond that. It was very simple. I cooked two chicken breasts in regular food bags. They came out perfect.
I then forked out £40 for a vacuum sealer, and some souse vide balls with the next attempt being easy pully pork which was finished off in the oven. It was a 24 hour cook, which at first was scary but it went well.
Next was the roast beef. It is known as Bottom Round Beed Roast in the app. This recipe was my best. I used Sainsbury’s lean beef. These usually turn out chewy and dry in the oven so I prefer to cook them in the pressure cooker. However, the meat that remains after cooking is done cools down and becomes very firm. Anova provided perfectly tender beef and leftovers that were tender enough for cold sandwiches.
Our most recent experiment was with sirloin steaks. We cooked them medium rare and then finished the process off with blow torch. It was delicious with an extremely tender middle and that Maillard/charcoal taste from the blow torch.
Shorter cooks, such as steak or chicken, can be done by heating the water and then vacuum-packaging the food. Although it takes a little longer than pan-frying/oven baking, the final result is much better.
Precision cookers are great for large cuts or sensitive food. The precision cooker doesn’t require you to test the food; there are no worries about over- or undercooking; everything works perfectly every time. This is why I think it’s unlikely that I will ever go back to an oven-cooked recipe.
V2 Anova has a lower launch price, which makes it much more affordable. I believe this justifies its higher cost than other smart models.
Other options are:
We did not find any products.
We did not find any products.
This sous vide machine was my first. My impression of it is probably biased. It has been a life-saver for me. Although it’s not something that I use often, it works well for more difficult cuts of meat.
Although the Anova’s design is excellent, there are some issues. Two occasions have occurred when the constant beeping of my device required me to reset it. It will fix the problem immediately, but isn’t ideal.
Then there is the cost, thankfully it has dropped down to £159, which makes it much more attractive, but it is still quite expensive when you could, in theory, get a none-smart alternative. However, I’d say the additional features, and superior overall specification is worth it over most of the £100 models.
Sous vide is the main culprit for high costs. You will need to have water, a vacuum sealer, and bags. If you do not have a lid, sous vide balls are required. All this can easily add up to another £100. The plastic waste generated by vacuum bags is another thing to be aware of, however it is much less than the normal waste generated in food shops.
Anova Precision Cooker’s minor niggles aside the app is amazing. The app has lots of great recipes, guides, and lets you control everything remotely. The app makes it easy to cook large amounts of meat and other foods that require precise temperature.
If you cook at home only occasionally, a sous-vide machine can be a good investment. The Anova is my favorite on the market.

]]>The post Gogroove BLUESENSE TRM Bluetooth Audio Transmitter Review – Gadget Review first appeared on Tech Like This.
]]>I don’t consider myself “old school” because not every piece of consumer electronics I have is the latest model. You might also find that cables and wires are often used to transmit video or audio between devices (e.g., from a Bluray player to an amp). But I do have to admit that the convenience that Bluetooth offers when it comes to audio streaming is pretty nifty — too bad when a device doesn’t has it built in, since it can’t be updated, being a hardware-specific kind of thing. If you’re nterested in more accessories, visit this list of the best computer accessories.
But wouldn’t it be nifty to be able to add Bluetooth audio streaming to any device desired? Okay, let’s do just that by, to paraphrase Scarface, “saying hello to my little friend.” In this case the “little friend” IS little — it’s the Gogroove BLUESENSE TRM, a battery powered Bluetooth audio transmitter device that turns any audio device that has a mini-headphone (3.5mm) audio output socket into a full-fledged Bluetooth streamer.
Related: Find out more from Creative Labs Inspire 6300 5 1 speaker review.
The idea is pretty simple, even if the technology is sophisticated (sure Bluetooth is ho-hum now, but think about what it does…). The audio mini-jack connector from the Gogroove BlueSense TRM is taken and inserted into the headphone jack on the device. Now that can be pretty much any consumer electronics product you can think of — say your portable DVD player ;or the speakers you’ve got on your computer desk or an early iPod or whatever — there’s no configuring that has to go on. Simply plug it in, and you can continue to play the audio like normal. But now you’ve the ability to transmit that audio elsewhere — say to your Bluetooth-equipped amplifier so it can be heard through a pair of real speaker. Or even to a pair of Bluetooth-equipped headphones: here’s a scenario, you want to watch TV late at night in the bedroom but not so as to bother your significant other who’s trying to sleep. Plug the Gogroove BLUESENSE TRM into the audio out of the TV, pop on the Bluetooth headphones and you’re in business. Need other instances of where it can be used — just think about it for a minute and it’ll come to you.
Related: The Griffin Stylus Pen Laser Pointer is another excellent computer accessory.
Now of course you DO have to pair the Gogroove BLUESENSE TRM with the Bluetooth-receiving device (but again, not something that needs to be done with the device it’s plugged into). So first give the internal battery a charge using USB — but you’ll need to use the included USB cable that terminates at one end into a plug, not a USB socket. Let the juice flow for about two hours and you’re good to go — the internal battery pumps the power out for a couple of hours, easy.
Here we go again with our Gogroove Blue Sense TRM fully charged and connected to the device’s mini-headphone output socket. Go to the Bluetooth menu or section (depending on what’s there) of the device that is going to receive the audio streaming via Bluetooth (i.e., the headphones in this case). Get the device so that it is “looking” for the Bluetooth signal and then press in on the power tab on the side of the Gogroove BLUESENSE TRM. When the LED blinks all blue/red, release the tab. The light will go solid when you pair the two. The end of the story. It works. It works perfectly. What else is there to say — audio is now being streamed over the nominal distance that Bluetooth handles (about 30 feet on average).
Editor’s Rating:
The bottom line The convenience of wireless audio streaming makes it a wonderful option. For $49 retail you get a Bluetooth audio transmitter that’s easy to use. Can’t ask for more.

]]>The post Redmi 9 Prime Review: Best budget smartphone first appeared on Tech Like This.
]]>Xiaomi is constantly introducing new smartphones to India. Redmi 9 Prime, the latest entry in the 9 Series series was introduced in India by Xiaomi. It is available in the Budget segment at Rs 9,999 and includes the most recent features such as MediaTek Helio G80 SoC with quad rear cameras, a 5,020mAh lithium battery, 18W Quick Char 3.0, and MediaTek Helio G80 SoC. Redmi 9 Prime Review: What does it offer? Should you buy it?
The phone’s design is very good, especially considering the cost. A retail box contains paperwork, a silicone cover, a USB charger cord, and a 10W adapter. The fast charger is not included in the package. Contrary to the Redmi Note 9’s glossy design, this phone doesn’t have a glossy back panel. Instead, it has a matte-finish texture that prevents fingerprints and smudges. Redmi 9 prime is slightly larger than other Xiaomi smartphones. Nevertheless, we didn’t mind the wider outlook.
This is the color we loved and received to review. The Space Blue color looks stunning. It also comes in other colours, including Mint Green and Matte Black. The camera arrangement on the Redmi 9 Prime was also very pleasing to us. This device is very similar to the Redmi Note 8 Pro last year, which also featured a tablet-shaped module camera. Although slightly higher than the rest of the phone, it reminds us a lot of the Poco X2. Below the camera is a fingerprint scanner that we have found faster than most other Xiaomi smartphones. It is a perfect placement, but not for long-finger users. Most of your fingers will touch the sensor to unlock the smartphone. You will get used to it after a few days.

Redmi 9 Prime is located on the upper edge. It has an IR Blaster. On the lower end, you will find a USB Type C charging port and a pair of firing speakers. On the right are power and volume buttons.
The phone is also equipped with a Full HD+ display. FHD+ is rare at this price. Redmi 9 Prime has a 6.53-inch full-HD+ with 1,080×2,340 pixels of resolution. This display features a 19.5×9 aspect ratio, 394ppi density of pixels, 400nits brightness, and Corning Gorilla Glass protection. You will find vibrant colours with good contrast. The display is also very sharp. While the brightness is great for outdoors, you will need to have more light for indoors. The smartphone’s front panel is very similar to that of the Redmi Note 9 Series, with the exception of the notch. This is a great display for a smartphone under 10K.
MediaTek Helio A80 SoC powers this phone. This octa core processor has six Cortex A55 cores that clock at 1.8GHz while the other two Cortex A75 cores are running at 2GHz. Redmi 9 Prime comes in two different configurations — 4GB RAM with 64GB storage and 4GB RAM with 128GB storage. Our review unit is the 128GB model. It is available at a starting price of Rs 11,999, while the base version starts at Rs 9,999.
Redmi 9 Prime is the perfect phone for you if your needs are simple. It can do all of your daily tasks, including calling, browsing and checking social media, as well as taking photos (within budget). We didn’t experience any lag even when multitasking. We did not experience any performance drops when switching between applications at regular intervals. In fact, during our test we left many open apps to see if the app’s armor is weaker.
Although the processor is expensive, it’s a solid gaming-focused one. While we were playing Call of Duty: Mobile at high graphics, there weren’t any hiccups. This makes the game enjoyable while keeping costs down. Although it can get hot, this is perfectly acceptable.
Software-wise, Redmi 9 Prime uses MIUI 11 to top off Android 10, and it is very similar to the experience on many Xiaomi phones. You will find a couple of apps pre-installed, such as GetApps. Zili. Rummyking, ShareMe. Credit. and Pay. There may also be a few more games. The device does not contain any Chinese apps, since most were prohibited in China. Game Turbo allows gamers to access all games on their phone from one location. This smartphone has parental controls tools, which is something we should be proud of. This is a great addition to parents who wish their children to be able use this phone. We did not enjoy the fact that Zilli keeps showing us useless notifications. It is possible to uninstall the app.
Let’s get to the cameras now, there are four cameras at the back of the phone including a 13-megapixel primary sensor with f/2.2 aperture. A secondary 8-megapixel ultra wide camera has a 118 degree field of view, and an f/2.2 aperture. There is also a macro lens that can be used with f/2.4 aperture. The depth sensor measures 2 megapixels. Basic features like HDR, AI and filters are available in the camera app. Pro mode is also offered. The Redmi 9 Prime took decent photos in daylight, with good exposure and details. It took some not-so great shots at night. Also, you don’t get a dedicated night mode feature on the Redmi 9 Prime, which is a drawback.
The wide-angle lens can produce low-resolution photos that are also less vibrant. However, with proper lighting you can get much better images. The AI can recognize scenes quickly when it’s enabled. However, if the subject is closer it can take some time for AI to focus. Sometimes blurred images are possible. To get perfect shots with the Redmi 9 prime, you have to wait. If you don’t have patience, portrait sensors can take decent shots. They are good at capturing details and the subject.
The 8-megapixel front facing camera has a 77.8 degree field of view, f/2.0 aperture and 8-megapixel resolution. The same as the daylight photos, it shares the same story. The video delivers good details and colours. Video capabilities only allow for 1080P at 30FPS. This device is lacking details and stabilization. This is not the best device for vloggers as it cannot be used for recording general purposes.
It also has an enormous 5020mAh battery. It can last almost two days on a normal charge. Even when gaming on Redmi 9 Prime, you get almost a day of battery life. However, the Redmi 9 Prime comes pre-charged with a 10W charging cable. It takes over three homes to completely charge it.
Redmi 9 Prime has proven to be very reliable for normal phone tasks. For better performance we recommend the high-end variant as the one that we tested. The gaming performance was excellent. While the camera quality is not exceptional, it does justify its price. Redmi 9 Prime currently ranks as the top budget phone below Rs 10,000.
There are pros
Full HD Panel
Long-lasting
It is nice to have a camera.
Cons
Night mode not provided
Charge slowly
