Mike Davidson (ex-Twitter VP) joins Microsoft as the Web Experiences group leader

Mike Davidson As the corporate vice-president of design and research, Steve Reilly, an experienced Seattle technie and designer, has joined Microsoft.

Davidson is the Web Experiences Organization’s Head of Design. This organization oversees MSN and Bing as well as the Edge Browser. He succeeds Albert Shum After 15 years at Microsoft, he left Microsoft in Oct.

The move is a return to Redmond, Wash., and the campus where Davidson worked for msnbc.com/NBCNews.com after the news outlet acquired Newsvine, the Seattle-based citizen journalism startup he founded in 2005.

In a blog post, Davidson stated that he is excited by the magnitude of his work at Microsoft.

“I’ve worked on the largest sports site in the world and one of the largest social networks in the world, but the properties in this group reach well over a billion people,” he wrote.

Davidson left NBC 2012 to become the VP Design and Research at Twitter. He then joined InVision as a product designer in 2018.

Kraken is a San Francisco-based digital currency exchange that he led.

Davidson shared his excitement over a flexible hybrid model of work and returning to work after having worked remotely the past four years.

“Where you land depends on a mix of your personality, your life outside of work, and what type of job you have,” Davidson said. “For me personally, I very much like being around people and feel like I do better work when I am … but I also like getting back my commute time a couple of days a week.”
