Finally, there’s the next God of War big game. This massive adventure takes Kratos or Atreus through the Nine Realms in an attempt to defy destiny.
God of War Ragnarök is a huge game, and as such, it’s a little daunting to explore even if you’re familiar with past God of War games. We’ve been playing the game for a while so we have some helpful tips that can be used by beginners.
Extra controller
It’s a smart idea to keep an additional controller handy in case you spend a lot of time collecting collectibles. One controller can be charged at all times, so you will always have one available to play with. There are many colors available, such as white, black and purple.
Get out and explore the world but be open to new ideas.
Just like its predecessor, God of War Ragnarök has a lot to explore, as players can visit all Nine Realms this time around, as opposed to the more limited offering in the prior game. There are many areas to explore, including side quests, artifacts, and other activities. Explore whenever possible, and you will be rewarded with valuable rewards for completing optional quests or solving puzzles.
Despite this, it is possible to run into something that prevents you from moving forward. Mimir will tell you if this occurs, and you can then ask your friend to help you solve the problem. It’s best to move on if you get this message. Later in the game, you’ll discover new equipment that allows you to return to a particular area and find everything.
You can upgrade your armor completely
Upgrades to armor and armor rarity are a big improvement over how God of War (2018) worked. Different armor pieces can be upgraded at different levels and capped at certain upgrades. Instead of being divided into different colors, there are now tiers that correspond to different colors. Everywhere piece of armor in God of War Ragnarök can be upgraded to Level 9, which is the max rank.
You have a lot more choice and flexibility in choosing what gear to use. If you do not want to change your armor, you can always keep it.
Make sure to use your amulet
Partway through the story of God of War Ragnarök, you’ll acquire a special new piece of gear called the Amulet of Yggdrasil. You can modify this amulet over time to make it more useful. It can also be customized in many ways. You’ll discover different enchantments you can slot into this amulet over the course of the journey. This is a fantastic way to modify your stats and work with your armor.
You can mix and match enchantments however you want, but do note that there are set bonuses for using three enchantments from the same Realm — for example, three Svartalfheim enhancements can increase Kratos’ Stun damage based on how high his Defense stat is.
Evolve your skills
The skill system in God of War Ragnarök is largely similar to the one used in the preceding game, but now, skills can be further customized. You can tweak the skill details by using it a number of times during combat. This allows you to do Frost damage more often or increase defense when you use a specific move. You will unlock these as you play. Make sure to keep checking back and using your skill points.
Runic attacks upgraded
Runic Attacks are special abilities that can be used to enhance your weaponry as you explore the different land and discover treasure. Although these special attacks can be a crucial part of your moveset you should never forget to update them if you rely on them. Runic Attacks, like all your other skills, require XP for upgrade. They can improve damage, stun and general effects. If you experience difficulty in any Runic Attacks, make sure to upgrade them.
Have fun
God of War Ragnarök is a grand adventure, easily being one of the best PS5 games of the year, and there’s a lot to uncover and do as you make your way through the story.
