Netflix is not a fan of password sharing and it’s easy to see why. While the company’s family plans are aimed at users who live within the same household, many have taken advantage of the feature to share their accounts with friends and other users living outside their home in order to make the subscription cheaper.
This is likely to end by 2023. This is according to Netflix’s latest earnings results in which the company revealed that starting in early 2023, they will be introducing what will be known as sub-accounts. These are basically accounts that will be placed under the main account for users that are not part of the main account holder’s immediate household.
This means that users can still share their accounts with others, but those placed under the sub-accounts will have to pay for it, although it will be billed to the main account holder, which in some instances might dissuade them from sharing their accounts with others if they don’t want to pay for it.
Netflix recently launched Profile Transfer, a tool that lets users transfer sub-accounts to individual accounts. This allows them to keep their watchlists and recommendations. So, if you’re someone who shares their Netflix password with others, then this is something to take note off come 2023.
