For mobile payments, can you use Face Unlock on Pixel 7?
Answer: No. Unfortunately, while face unlock is available as a feature for the Google Pixel 7, it won’t work if you are trying to use biometric authentication to make a mobile payment. You’ll have to revert to either fingerprint unlock or using your password and/or PIN in order to pay for an item at a compatible terminal with the Pixel 7.
Face Unlock: How Does it Work?
The face unlock feature is available on many high-end phones. The phone can create a unique code to identify you by analysing different parts of your face with biometric software. This includes the location of your eyes, nose width, and other features. The phone will recognize you when it is held up to its face.
Other purposes can be served by face unlock, including opening an application for which your face ID is enabled. Apple iPhones can use facial unlock to enable Apple Pay for digital payments.
The face unlock feature for payment is not compatible with the Google Pixel 7. Face unlock for the new Google Pixel 7 will not work. The feature is only available for unlocking the phone once it’s been locked for a time. You will not be able to use face unlock for Google Pay transactions. After that, you’ll be asked to unlock your phone with the password and pin. After unlocking the phone, you can tap the device against any NFC-enabled terminal to complete the transaction. It may not work for transit purchases, as these do not require the phone to be locked in the U.S.
The face unlock issue on Pixel 7 could possibly be fixed with a software upgrade. To make payments, however, you cannot use your Google Pixel’s face unlock to make payment.
