Amazon is reducing returns, and you’re in for a big change with your Kindle

Amazon has made a significant change in the process of refunds for Kindle. The move is intended to stop a social media trend that has been wildly popular. Amazon customers can get a complete refund for Kindle ebooks that they purchased within a week. The money-back guarantee applies even if the customer already has read the book. TikTok has created a TikTok craze encouraging Amazon Kindle customers to ask for a refund after reading a book within the 7-day time period.

Amazon’s Kindle return policy has been criticized since its beginning. Some authors had concerns about it. Online retailer finally took action and changed the policy.

Amazon Kindle users will not be able to ask for a reimbursement if they have read less than 10%.

Express.co.uk was informed by an Amazon spokesperson, that the new policy would take effect immediately.

Amazon indicated that they welcome feedback from customers and authors to enhance the customer experience.

The self-service option for books above 10%, while overall returns are not high, will be disabled.

The policy’s effect on authors was one of the reasons it drew so much criticism.

Let’s see how Kindle refunds works: After a book is returned to Amazon, all royalties an author has received will be deducted.

It can cause authors to lose their money. Although consumers may save money, this could lead to writers being in worse financial health.

This issue was highlighted by Lisa Kessler, author who is a specialist in paranormal romances.

Kessler sent the following message this summer. This is a reminder that Amazon is not a library. If you read or return the book, the author will be charged. Amazon currently owes money to me. Presently, people are reading The Muse Series and returning the books when they’re finished.

“Authors also need to eat.”

Change.org has also launched a petition asking Amazon for a revision to its Kindle refund policy. The petition had more than 75,000 signatures when this article was published.

Amazon will align its long-awaited refund policy with other companies, who don’t have as generous refund terms.

Authors Guild of America is one of the first organizations to embrace the Amazon shift in its Kindle reimbursement policy.

The New York Writers Organization is a New York-based organization that writes. They were informed by Amazon of Amazon’s plans to alter its ebook return policy. Automatic returns will be limited for books that have been read less than 10%.

“Any customer who wishes to return an ebook after reading more than 10 percent will need to send in a customer service request, which will be reviewed by a representative to ensure that the return request is genuine and complies with Amazon’s policies against abuse.

“This process will create a strong deterrent against buying, reading, and returning ebooks within seven days, and readers who attempt to abuse the return policy will be penalised under Amazon’s policies.”
