Here’s Vice City as it appeared in 2002 for the PlayStation 2.
We’re excited to see how GTA 6’s Vice City looks on PS5 and Xbox Series X.

GTA 6 has been revealed, but not in the way Rockstar Games had hoped.
The official announcement of Grand Theft Auto 6 came in February 2022, when Rockstar used a GTA 5 Community Update to reveal that “active development for the next entry in the Grand Theft Auto series is well underway.”

At the time, the developer advised us to “stay tuned to the Rockstar Newswire for official details” and promised to share “more as soon as we are ready.”
Unfortunately, the internet had other plans when it came to GTA 6 news.

On September 18, an unprecedented GTA 6 leak saw over 90 videos and screenshots from the game‘s early alpha build surface online.
Rockstar has acknowledged and verified the hack and is working to remove the leaked content from the internet.

Naturally, this first look at Grand Theft Auto 6 has revealed new information about the game, such as the GTA 6 location, characters, and gameplay.
So keep reading to learn everything you need to know about GTA 6.

GTA 6 was confirmed for release in 2022, but Rockstar has yet to release any official screenshots or even a logo.

The first GTA 6 announcement came in February 2022, when Rockstar Games quietly revealed that GTA 6 development is “well underway” as part of a larger GTA 5 and GTA Online Community Update.

Rockstar said in response to the news that Grand Theft Auto 6 is in “active development,” “On behalf of our entire team, we thank you all for your support and cannot wait to step into the future with you!”

As part of the company’s financial results report in August 2022, Rockstar’s parent company Take-Two Interactive reaffirmed that GTA 6 development is “well underway.”

“With the development of the next entry in the Grand Theft Auto series well underway, the Rockstar Games team is determined to once again set creative benchmarks for the series, our industry, and for all entertainment, just as the label has done with every one of their frontline releases,” said Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick.

LEAKED GTA 6 GAMEPLAY

On September 18, 2022, an unprecedented GTA 6 leak occurred, with dozens of videos and screenshots from an alleged in-development build of the game being circulated online.

Do you want to know if the GTA 6 leaks are true? Rockstar has since confirmed the hack in a statement:
“We recently experienced a network intrusion in which an unauthorized third party illegally accessed and downloaded confidential information from our systems, including early development footage for the next Grand Theft Auto,” the company said.

“We are extremely disappointed that any details of our next game have been shared with you all in this manner,” Rockstar continues.
“We’ll keep everyone updated and, of course, properly introduce you to the next game when it’s ready.
We’d like to thank everyone for their ongoing support during this difficult time.”

The GTA Forums have worked tirelessly in the 48 hours since the GTA 6 leak first surfaced to remove all traces of the illegally obtained screenshots and videos in order to avoid being “obliterated by Rockstar.”

The dedicated GTA 6 reddit has also removed all links, images, and videos from the leak (opens in new tab), and has pledged to remain online with one condition: “We will allow leak-related discussions without attaching the leaks.
We do not allow comments with download links to the leak.”

Will GTA 6 be postponed?

The depiction of Los Santos in GTA 5 is still impressive nine years later, so it’s no surprise that GTA 6 is taking its time.

There was some concern in the immediate aftermath of the new GTA 6 leak about how the intrusion would affect the ongoing development of the new Grand Theft Auto game.

Rockstar has since confirmed in an official statement (opens in new tab) that the hack will have no effect on the production of GTA 6, as well as the ongoing security of GTA 5 and GTA Online.

“We do not anticipate any disruption to our live game services or any long-term impact on the development of our ongoing projects at this time “

Our work on the next Grand Theft Auto game will continue as planned, and we remain as dedicated as ever to providing you, our players, with an experience that truly exceeds your expectations.”

What’s the hold-up with GTA 6?

Rockstar has been kept busy over the last decade by the unprecedented success of GTA Online and the development of Red Dead Redemption 2.

Many of you are wondering why GTA 6 is taking so long to be released.
It’s no surprise that Rockstar is taking its time, given the success of GTA 5 and GTA Online, as well as the scope of Red Dead Redemption 2.
When GTA 6 was confirmed to be in development, the studio stated as much.
Rockstar went out of its way to emphasize the “unprecedented longevity of GTA 5,” which has been updated and re-released numerous times over the last nine years.

GTA 6 release date: When will GTA 6 be released?

Rockstar Games has yet to confirm a release date for GTA 6. That hasn’t stopped internet investigators from making educated guesses.

Multiple sources have confirmed a rumor that GTA 6 will be released in 2025, as part of a larger information leak that suggested GTA 6 would be set in a modern-day Vice City.

It’s always best to proceed with caution when it comes to speculative releases, but with new GTA 6 leaks confirming a modernized Vice City setting, a release date in 2025 might be right on the money.

Location in GTA 6:

Is Vice City the setting for GTA 6?

The GTA 6 location has long been speculated, but it appears that we will be returning to Vice City.
Rockstar has confirmed that the leaked GTA 6 gameplay footage is genuine, so we now have a better understanding of the city and setting.

For starters, one screen depicts an underground rail system with the words “Vice City Metro” printed on the side, and keen observers may have spotted familiar GTA 3: Vice City locations such as the Malibu Club, Ocean View Hotel, Little Haiti, and Vice Beach.

Naturally, the city appears to have changed since your last visit.
Grand Theft Auto: Vice City was set in 1986, and all indications point to GTA 6 being set in the present day.
The presence of NPCs wielding smartphones and wearing modern clothing is proof enough that Grand Theft Auto 6 is set in a modern-day pastiche of Miami, Florida, but eagle-eyed social media users believe a character references the death of LifeInvader CEO, who is killed by Michael De Santa – implying that GTA 6 takes place after the events of GTA 5.

Characters in GTA 6:

Will there be a female protagonist in GTA 6?

For months, it has been speculated that Rockstar was working on the first female protagonist in GTA 6, a first for the series in the 3D era.

The news was first reported by Bloomberg earlier this year in an article about the changing company culture at Rockstar North, and it has since been confirmed by the GTA 6 leak.

We can see two new playable GTA 6 characters in the early development footage.

The characters’ in-development names are Jason and Lucia, and it appears that the character switching system from GTA 5 is returning in some capacity.

One leaked clip showed the pair robbing a diner together, with the player controlling one of the characters and AI controlling the other.

Another clip shows character swapping, though this time it is near instantaneous rather than the slow perspective shift seen in GTA 5.

The GTA 6 map

While the final GTA 6 map has yet to be revealed, there are some hints from leaked video and screens that point to a play space that extends beyond Vice City.
A few of the leaked screenshots appear to show all-new areas of Vice City, much like how Rockstar expanded on Los Santos between Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas and GTA 5.
As you may know, Vice City is loosely based on Miami, and there is now speculation that GTA 6 will head south toward the Everglades (wetlands) and the Florida Keys (a string of tropical islands).
The “Gator Keys” were mentioned as part of a radio broadcast in the original GTA: Vice City, but the location was never shown in-game.
If the screenshots are accurate, the GTA 6 map will feature a diverse range of environments.

The GTA 6 gameplay

GTA 5 has been updated.

GTA 5 had an impressive city life, so we’re excited to see how Rockstar improves this aspect of the open world in GTA 6.

Because Rockstar has yet to release a GTA 6 trailer, it is difficult to predict how this new game will play and how it will differ from Grand Theft Auto 5.

However, it is clear from the leaked early development footage that Rockstar is at least investigating and testing some new mechanics.

For example, it appears that a new set of stealth mechanics is being introduced, as evidenced by footage of characters crawling while prone and even carrying bodies.

Furthermore, the weapon wheel, which was revamped for GTA 5, is making a comeback in some capacity, and leaked footage suggests that Rockstar is introducing new health buff items such as painkillers.
We can also see that the Five Star ‘Wanted’ system is back and that the VCPD has improved their AI routines for tracking Jason and Lucia once you’ve gotten on their radar.

While we wait for GTA 6, why not check out some of these GTA 5 cheats to cause havoc?
