Acciona Energía Will Supply Renewable Energy To Barwon

Acciona Energy has signed a power purchase agreement (PPA) in Australia to supply 68 gigawatt hours (GWh) per year of 100% renewable electricity to the Barwon Renewable Energy Partnership (BREP) .

The BREP is made up of Barwon Water, Barwon Health and GeelongPort, the three large companies in charge of managing local transport, health and water services in Victoria (Australia), with the aim of facilitating the collective purchase of renewable energy and thus reducing their emissions.

The 10-year PPA will start on December 1, 2022, as reported by the Spanish company in a statement, and the electricity supplied will come from the Mt Gellibrand wind farm, located in the southwest of Victoria.

With a capacity of 132 megawatts (MW) , this park produces enough clean energy to power some 90,000 Australian homes. “This agreement is a further step in fulfilling the Victorian Government’s climate change strategy and an example of how large companies can successfully decarbonise their energy use and reduce their electricity bills,” said Markets Director and Energy Policies of Acciona Energy, Melanie Sutton.

The executive managers of Barwon Water, Barwon Health and GeelongPort, have highlighted the relevance of this contract for meeting the decarbonization objectives of their companies and the sectors in which they operate, as well as the benefits of regional collaboration in the sector public to lead the transition of the State of Victoria towards renewables.
